We are Alison and Dave Ackerman. We started Appalachian Bee Company, in Western NC, the heart of Sourwood country as chemical free beekeepers in 2007. We moved to Elkin, NC in 2016 and have continued our tradition of chemical-free beekeeping, collecting only the honey, wax and products of the hive that the bees do not need for themselves. We concentrate on two varieties of honey; Wildflower and Sourwood honeys. We sell only raw natural products from our hives (10-16 hives, depending on the year). We sell raw liquid honey, chunk honey, comb honey, creamed honey, raw beeswax and beeswax candles to our clients. Some products are seasonal. Our bees are surrounded by tree-filled forests and pollinator friendly gardens. We are North Carolina Certified Honey Producers.
We started woodworking over 20 years ago. We’ve added our homemade goodies 3 years before joining the Surry County Farmers Market. It is always good to see our customers enjoy purchasing our crafts, cakes, cookies, fudge, muffins, and more as gifts for others and themselves.
We focus on hand crafted fiber products from alpacas we raise near Mt. Airy, North Carolina. We make and sell our exquisite luxury yarn, hand dyed fiber, hand knitted hats from unusual yarns as well as hand woven shawls. We have perfected the art of making beautiful dryer balls that have become our most popular product. Our items are American made on our farm by our family. However, what makes our products unique, aside from their one-of-a-kind nature, is us! We openly share with visitors our experience about how we make things, the differences in natural fibers, how yarn is made from fleece to skein and our adventure of living with alpacas.
In addition, John sharpens tools such as knives, chainsaws, chisels, scissors, garden and woodworking tools, and more while you wait or by appointment at your farm or ours. We also have Tie Dye by Vivian is Dyeing.
